I'm Back! (Again)

Posted on 2007-06-27

Almost a month since I last posted, I know!

Unfortunetly I got REALLY sick and was unable to do much.  Feeling a little better, but not completely 100%.  More like 87%.

Too Barnabus and Froggie:  I'll e-mail both of you the presentation tonight or tomorrow.  Anyone else who wants to see it, let me know!

An update on what's been going on:

Finished finals; B in every class.  I find out in July what my scores on the AP tests I took are.

Started my new job, but had to leave for a while because of my illness.  Back to work now (went in today) and I'm very happy with the change.  One of the wonderful upsides: a gas station on my way is dirt cheap.  Most in my area are $3.15-3.30 but this is still under $3.  $2.95 right now.

Got my braces off today!  Have to wear a retainer that prevents me from speaking clearly for a few weeks, but it's worth it.  (I have to remind myself of that.)

I'll be buying a new-old car in a few months.  My brother is "coming of age" and will be given my current car (Thanks, Mom!  Thanks, Dad!) so that leaves me to buy my own.  Thankfully I have $11,000 already, I just need a few more thousand saved up before I feel comfortable buying a "new" car.

An Update

Posted on 2007-06-01

No background in Anatomy is required for the presentation.  If I can find a way to post it on here, I'll do that, but if not I can send it via message/e-mail to whoever wants it.  I'll also include the a page of notes that I talked about but didn't put in the presentation, for clarification.  Let me know if you would like to see it.

Anywho, tomorrow is my last day at work.  When I went in today they had a cake sitting on the table that read, "You Will Be Missed".  I'm sorry to go-my co-workers were a lot of fun and I'm definetly going to miss the discount.  But I like the food business more.  I'm too sensitve for retail.

Sunday I'm tutoring someone for their math final, so I'll be getting some extra cash from that.  Every little bit helps.

I never thought I'd say this: but I like English.  Only because my group won the Christopher Smart Competition and now we get an automatic 100% on the final.  Which means I don't have to show up for the final and thus get to sleep in.  So instead of 2 days of finals, I only have 1.5 days of finals.  Pretty darn nice.

I'll be back in a couple of days!

Don't Worry, I'm Still Alive

Posted on 2007-05-30

I've had a lot of stuff to do the past week for school but now I'm done!  Our Hamlet project is completely filmed and I just finished the powerpoint for my presentation in Anatomy (the subject: Brain Abnormalities in Serial Killers).  For once, I'm excited about my presentation!

Only thing left to do is to study for finals.

And then graduation!

I doubt I'll be posting a lot within the next few days... but I'll post whenever I can!

Overly Sensitive

Posted on 2007-05-24

I got to work about 10 minutes early and when I walked out to find out where I should begin, I hear about 4 or 5 people yelling at each other.

Listening in on the commotion, I determined that a lady spanked her toddler because he was throwing things around.  A lady and her husband (I think he was her husband) saw this and began throwing a hissy fit.  They were screaming that they were going to call the cops because of a spanking.  The cops did come (4 cop cars-overkill, if you ask me).  I don't know if the parents were arrested, but the cops were talking to them for awhile.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with spanking your toddler if it is for the right reasons.  If you're ticked off and spank your children for poops and giggles, then it's child abuse.  If your child is misbehaving and just won't listen, a light spank on the bottom is perfectly acceptable.  The parents did nothing wrong, in my opinion.  It was the couple that called the cops who were in the wrong.  They butted in and, according to a couple other employees, chased the parents around the store.  Honestly, if I were the mom, I would have told the cops that the couple was harassing my family.

And now the other side:

That couple was looking out for the child, and they could have handled the situation differently, but they meant well.  Who's to say if the spank was really justified?  What if it's a regular occurance, or maybe they spanked the child too hard.  I didn't witness the even myself, so I can't say.  Even if I did see it I doubt I could answer those questions.

Sometimes it's best if people just mind their own business, but this brings up another issue.  What about the kids who are being abused and the strangers who help them because they saw something suspious in public?  A phone call to child services can ruin a family if they are innocent, but that phone call could save a child.

I guess it's a Catch-22.  I see both sides of this story and these situations don't have a checklist to follow.

The Reassurance I Need

Posted on 2007-05-20

On Friday I was offered a raise at my current job if I stayed.  I refused it, but ever since then I've been doubting where I should.

Until now that is.

Today at worked sucked.  Completely, totally, undoubtedly sucked.  A guy charged something to a coporate credit card, one with a person's name and the coporation name on it.  I asked to see ID because it is required (at least where I work) to show ID for credit cards.  He flat-out refused and when I began explaining to him why I need to see ID, he started calling me an idiot.  It took me ten calls and fifteen minutes before my supervisor showed up and after arguing with him, she allowed him to use the credit card.

The guy made me cry because he would not stop calling me an idiot, stupid, etc.  He was such a jerk.  The customers at the register beside mine started getting on his case and stood up for me.  It was obvious that I was upset and a few even gave me hugs before they left.

I hate customers.  Honestly, what gives them the right to treat others so horribly?  This guy was in his 40's and at least a foot taller than me.  He was such a bully.

Today completely reaffirmed my desire to work elsewhere-no matter how much they offer me here.  My saniy and self-confidence isn't worth it.

Lent Revisited

Posted on 2007-05-18

I gave up shopping for Lent and was mighty proud that all through Lent (including Sundays) I did not buy one thing.  Well, I bought groceries and other necessities (new glasses...) but I did not buy anything that I didn't need.

I think I should pretend it's Lent again.  I have spent a large amount during the past month and it's starting to catch up with me.  I've paid for everything using cash or check (gas is saved for my cc and I have been so good about that!) so no debt but getting close to no money.  I have a large trip coming up in August and I want to have as much money as possible for that trip.

An update on how my giving them my 2 weeks notice:  they offered me more money!  I couldn't believe it.  I went in to pick up my check and my manager offered to pay me a dollar mroe per hour.  I'm grateful, but I've made up my mind.  Retail was fun, but some of the customers sucked, and working in a store where I got a 50% discount on all items made it too tempting to shop!  My last day is June 2nd.

Rock, Paper, Gold Medals?

Posted on 2007-05-16

American society has certainly declined in terms of entertainment.  I guess this proves the saying, "Simple minds are easily amused" true.

There is a professional league for rock, paper, scissors which is petitioning the Olympic Committee to allow them in the games.

ABC is definetly going through with Geico's Cavemen sitcom.

A girl won $25,000 because she's the nation's best texter.

If people want to give away money to the best texter, I wonder what I can do for tons of free money?

Did it Work?

Posted on 2007-05-16

If you're a myspace user you might have received the bulletin that told everyone to not buy gas on Tuesday, May 17, 2007.

I needed gas yesterday.  However, gas was $3.57 (the cheapest) and I thought, might as well participate in the boycott and wait another day before I buy gas.  I'm so glad I waited because today I bought gas for $3.35 a gallon.

Me thinks we should keep on doing this until gas is below $3.00

Drafting a Two Weeks Notice

Posted on 2007-05-15

I've decided to quit my job at the thrift store.  My former boss would like to have me work for him again (at a different restaurant, long story) and I think I'm going to accept it.  It's a longer drive, however, during the summer I will be able to work full-time and probably get in some overtime.  There's only one condition: I must get paid at least a dollar (and preferably two) more than what I'm making now.  I'm pretty sure I will get paid more, but I have to talk it over with him.

There is a sale (two weeks from yesterday) coming up at the store and (unfortunetly), I've decided that I will stick around long enough to work the sale but that's it.  I dont' want to work after that so I have to time to study for finals and experience my graduation.  If I don't like the hours and pay my previous boss is offering me, I don't know what I'm going to do.  I have to work.

I will find out by this Friday wether I'm taking the other job or not so I think on Friday I'll give my current boss my 1.5 weeks notice.  I know I'm going to tell them in person, but do I also have to write them a letter explaining my reasons?  It's a part-time job as a salesclerk so it's not like my reputation will follow me around but I still want to be curteous.

Any advice on how I should quit (I'm leaving an amicable terms) would be appreciated.

Happy Mother's Day!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!

I hope you have a wonderful day being pampered by those who love you!

2 Down

Posted on 2007-05-09

2 AP tests down, one more to go!

I registered for classes at the university I will be attending.  It was hard and uber confusing.  I eventually got it all sorted out right but it took almost two hours to do so.  I was fairly lucky, if I pass tomorrow's test I can take Core Humanities 201 instead of English 102, and there is one CH class in the same time frame as my current English class. I doubt it'll fill up-it begins at 8 in the morning and I seem to be one of the few who like waking up that early.

I bought a Camelot record yesterday.  It's of the original musical with Richard Burton and Julie Andrews.  Don't have a record player, but it's fun to look at.  I'm sure one day (maybe soon) I'll buy a record player.  I'm a collector (aka packrat) and I love starting new collections.  I collect dishwares, jewelry, dresses, faberge eggs, scarves, musical paraphanial, purses (my first love!), and now records!  My parents joke that when I move out I'll have to rent two aparments to house everything I own.  I can't help it; "junk" is fun!

Hello Again

Posted on 2007-05-08

Prom was amazing-especially the decorations!  We're the class of 007 so our theme (probably similar to other proms cross the nation) was Casino Royale.  When you entered there was a large archway with a fountain and along the walls were casino games.  The DJ was surrounded by two screens on either side: one playing the movie, the other a screen you can step behind and move and it will shoe your shadow.  Way cool.

Music was the same as always, but that's ok.  It was fun dancing. A few of my friends and I were the first ones of the dance floor (everyone else was absorped in the games) so we had the entire dance floor to ourselves for awhile.  Our senior suvenior was a deck  of cards with the school logo, prom theme and year on the backs of the cards.  The original plan was  shot glasses, but that was thought to be "inappropriate" (like we haven't seen shot glasses before...).

Yesterday I had the AP test.  A lot easier than I expected but I had a problem on one of the essays.  We had to write about how two of the three options given increased states' rights: block grants, the Welfare Reform Act of 1996, or the 10th Amendment.  I didn't know the last two, so I made up something for the WFA of '96 because I thought that would be easier to b.s. than the 10th Amendment.

Pictures will be up in a few days.

Tips for Your Next Night Out

Posted on 2007-05-05

Here are some things I've learned the past two days while getting ready for Prom (No, it didn't take me two days to get ready.  One day was for dying my hair and the second the actual getting ready).

1.  L'oreal HairColor Remover doesn't work.
2.  Even though the above says you can redye your hair immediately, it's a lie.  You can't.
3.  Hairspray oddly enough does some of the curling for you.
4.  Brush your teeth before finishing your makeup.
5.  Light colored nailpolish cannot hide the blood clot beneath your nails.

And finally

6.  Always start breaking in your shoes at least a few days prior to the Big Event.

Well, I must finish getting ready.

Au revoir, mes amis!
